Louisiana based studio gear folk PreSonus have announced a pretty special looking new range of audio interfaces. The new 2|6 (studio 26) and 6|8 (studio 68) usb interfaces record at up to 24-bit, 192 kHz resolution and feature PreSonus’ XMAX microphone preamps, ‘audiophile-grade’ digital converters, ultra-low-jitter clocking, and MIDI I/O.
These new PreSonus interfaces come with a tidy amount of useful software. Packaged with the devices is the award-winning Studio One® Artist digital audio workstation (DAW) software and the Studio Magic plug-in suite for Mac and Windows. This software comes packed with seven great looking plugins in VST, AU and AAX formats.
The Studio 26 has two switchable line / instrument inputs on the front panel, each with a +48V phantom power facility. In addition to these main L/R main inputs there are also two balanced line inputs for monitor mixing. Input and Output levels are easy to keep an eye on thanks to some nice bright LED meters. A Cue Mix A/B function gives us the ability to quickly flick between two mixes (while monitoring through headphones), making it easy for a DJ to listen in on a performers monitor mix.
The PreSonus Studio 26 has been designed to be a neat solution for singer-songwriters, podcasters, DJs and for live streaming. This small interface would also be useful for guitarists who wish to jam. Due to it’s relative simplicity this interface would also be useful for anyone wishing to record audio in a conference or church type environment.
The PreSonus Studio 68 is aimed more at small studios, featuring 6-in, 6-out audio/MIDI interface sports 2 front-panel combo mic/line/instrument inputs and 2 rear-panel mic/line inputs. There are also two balanced line outputs, perfect for monitor mixing or speaker switching. In addition to all these ‘useful holes’ there’s also a S/PDIF I/O.
At the time of writing the Studio 26 is expected to retail for $199, and the Studio 68 is likely to have a price tag around the $299 mark. Given the amount of functionality these USB interfaces provide for the price we expect them to cause a bit of a stir in the market.
